Current Status of Schipp Research
as of January, 2004

includes SHIPP, JASCHINSKI

Little research in Poland has been possible. According to oral history, theMichael Shipp family lived in a village called Grabowo, but searches for that village produce from 8 to 12 different results depending on the source. To date, only one Grabowo has been reviewed via LDS microfilm.

Recent research has turned up yet another spelling for Elizabeth's maiden name: Jaszcynski This spelling appears as "Mother's maiden name" on the death certificates of some of Elizabeth's children. Elizabeth's own death certificate lists her father as Andrew Jursczenski. Helen's baptismal record at St. Adalbert shows her mother as Elizabeth Jaszerynski, but that could be a misinterpretation of the handwriting in the record book.

Michael Schipp arrived in the US on October 22, 1884 aboard the SS Westphalia.

Elizabeth and their 6 children arrived on March 26, 1887 aboard the SS Saale.

Three more children were born in the US.

Michael became a US citizen in 1897. The final papers show only his renunciation of Prussian citizenship and do not give any information about his town of origin in Prussia. His first papers have not been located.

Census and Minnesota Death Certificate information has helped add to the data for the Schipp children, but there is little anecdotal information.

Elizabeth apparently had a brother who was a priest in Nebraska, probably Lincoln. His first name is not known. No research has been done to locate information about him.
