Current Status of Dachtera Research
as of April, 2001

My own research has been augmented and enhanced by contributions from Ed Lewandoski and Karen Bahnemann in St. Paul, MN, Wolfgang Dachtera in Aachen, Germany; Michal Dachtera in Poznan, Poland, and Piotr Dachtera in Poznan.

Karen and I are second cousins. Her grandmother and my grandfather were sister and brother. Karen and her father, Ed Lewandoski have provided wonderful photographs and valuable information on the family in Minnesota.

Wolfgang contacted me in January, 2001 looking for information about the family name. We have since exchanged information and photos. His search also put him in contact with Michal and Piotr who are not closely related to one another. I phrase it that way because I believe there is a connection among us all if we go back enough generations.

Thanks to information from Wolfgang, Michal, and Piotr, I now have names of towns and villages where Dachtera families lived as far back as the 17th century.
